Biography
‘Art is not what the Painter sees but what others see.’
Edgar Degas 1834-1917
I have enjoyed painting for over 50 years working alongside full time employment in Architecture until 1994. Painting and teaching in the UK and abroad culminated in 6 tutorial videos and the publication of four books.
My work has been exhibited with The Royal Institute of Oil Painters in London every year since 2008 and I take pride in never having any painting rejected since my first submission. Elected as a full member of the ROI in 2011, I was privileged to serve on the Council for 6 years.
Painting in the comfort of my small studio, I now draw upon my years of knowledge and love of the landscape. In every painting I try to capture a feeling of atmosphere in the scene, choosing not to depict an accurate illustration. My work is associated between Impressionist and semi-Abstract.
This exhibition represents my latest collection of 40 works, all completed this year … 2024 being my 80th year of age. They reflect a combination of styles revealing the various ways I paint depicting what I seek in my heart and head. Apart from being in a position to exhibit my paintings at The Mall Galleries in London each year, I have continually shown my work at Adrian Hill Fine Art in Holt, Norfolk and Stamford, Lincolnshire. I exhibit in relevant exhibitions at The Gallery, Holt in Norfolk and have work included in various other UK Galleries. Paintings are now held in private collections in the UK, Europe and USA. I feel fortunate to be able to continue painting and hope you enjoy my latest collection.
‘A painting requires a little mystery, some vagueness and fantasy, is easy when you don’t know how … but very difficult when you do.’
Edgar Degas 1834-1917
