Biography
David (born 1975) is an oil painter for whom the regular discipline of drawing and making studies ‘en plein air’ has become an essential part of his art practice. He can be found out and about with his pochade box or easel in all weathers and seasons. In front of the subject David
feels more connected and less inhibited. As a result he is able to respond instinctively and get closer to the ‘essence’ of what he is painting. The paintings done on location can serve as a definitive, final statement or perhaps be used as the springboard point for a larger studio piece.
David has a First Class (Joint Hons) degree in Fine Art/Pure Mathematics from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. He is currently based in Stony Stratford, Buckinghamshire and paints at a wide variety of locations across the UK, including coastal and rural areas such as
North Norfolk and Cornwall together with cities such as Bath, Oxford and London. David also paints abroad and recent trips have included
Venice and Seville.
In January 2011 David was elected as a provisional member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters which represents many of the finest oil painters in the UK today, by December he was fast tracked to Associate Member status. The following year he was granted full membership.
