Peter Brown was born in Reading on the 28th July 1967. He graduated from Manchester Polytechnic in 1990 with a BA in Fine Art. In 1993 he moved to Bath where he still lives with his wife Lisa and their five children.
Peter is primarily a painter in oils, occasionally working in charcoal and pastel, having an impressionist, vigorous and lively style. He is best known for his street scenes in Bath, London, Oxford and Cambridge and paints almost exclusively en plein-air often returning to the same spot at the same time of day so as to work in the same light. For his larger paintings he may return up to six times working in two to three hour sittings for smaller boards sometimes just once. Although Peter is well known for his cityscapes he also paints beautiful landscape works adopting the same style and technique.
Often seen on location, working in all weathers, Peter happily interacts with passers by whilst painting and is affectionately known as “Pete the Street”. He is a member of 6 national groups including the; Royal Institute of Oil Painters (ROI), Royal Society of British Artists (RBA), Royal Society of Portrait Painters and Member (RP), Pastel Society (PS) and the New English Art Club (NEAC) and the Bath Society of Artists. His work has also featured regularly at the Royal Academy summer open exhibition since 2002.
Peter has exhibited for over 15 years and has undertaken numerous one man exhibitions. He has won many prestigious awards including; 2 Awards at the 2013 ROI annual exhibition, The Critics Prize at the NEAC in 2011 and 2012; The Prince of Wales Award for Portrait Drawing in 2008 and the Arts Club Award at the PS in 2001.
In 2006 he became the very first artist in residence at the Savoy hotel in London and his original paintings can be seen in many other notable collections including The RAC Club, The Holburne Museum, The Welsh National Library and The Bowerman Collection.
Peter is represented exclusively by Messum’s of Cork Street, London, who have kindly allowed Adrian Hill Fine Art the opportunity to proudly exhibit original artworks for sale in East Anglia.
